In addition to the Yangtze (Chang Jiang), tributaries in this ecoregion include the Min, Tuo, Jialing, Wu, and Qing rivers.

Description

Boundaries

This ecoregion includes the stretch of the Yangtze east of the Tibetan Plateau that passes through the Sichuan basin and Yangtze Gorges (Three Gorges) to the confluence of the with the Qing River.

Terrestrial habitats

Terrestrial ecoregions that largely comprise this ecoregion include the Yunnan Plateau subtropical evergreen forests, Qionglai-Minshan conifer foress, Sichuan Basin evergreen broadleaf forests, Daba Mountains evergreen forests, and Guizhou Plateau broadleaf and mixed forests (Wikramanayake et al. 2002).

Justification for delineation

For Southeast Asia, delineations were determined using a bottom-up approach that employed both published and unpublished field data and expert assessment (Abell et al. 2008). Some of the delineations for this ecoregion were based on information from Li (1981) and Ding (1994).
