Description
Boundaries
Lake Lanao is the largest lake on the Philippine island of Mindanao. It is drained by the Agus River into Iligan Bay.
Description of endemic fishes
Some of the critically endangered endemics include species in the genus Puntius: P. amarus, P. baoulan, P. clemensi, P. disa, P. flavifuscus, P. herrei, P. katolo, P. lanaoensis, P. manalak, and P. tras (IUCN 2012).
Justification for delineation
For Southeast Asia, delineations were determined using a bottom-up approach that employed both published and unpublished field data and expert assessment (Abell et al. 2008). Lake Lanao is an ancient lake that is known for its species flock of cyprinid fishes.
