Description

Boundaries

Inle Lake is a lake in a karstic area of Myanmar.

Description of endemic fishes

Endemic aquatic invertebrates also occur in this lake.

Justification for delineation

A small lake in a karstic area of Myanmar. Inhabited by a number of endemic species and genera, although part of the endemism might be a sampling artifact, the lake having been visited by a few biologists, while the adjacent basins are virtually unexplored. Endemic aquatic invertebrates are also expected (M. Kottelat pers. comm. 2006).

Level of taxonomic exploration

The lake has been visited by a few biologists, whereas the adjacent basins are virtually unexplored (M. Kottelat pers. comm. 2006).
