This ecoregion includes the upper part of the Salween basin in China, north of the confluence with the Nanding River.

Justification for delineation

For Southeast Asia, delineations were determined using a bottom-up approach that employed both published and unpublished field data and expert assessment (Abell et al. 2008; Wu & Wu 1992). This ecoregion includes the upper part of the Salween basin north of the confluence with the Nanding River. The boundary with the lower and middle Salween is unclear (M. Kottelat pers. com. 2006).
