Description

Boundaries

This ecoregion includes the upper parts of tributaries of the lower Brahmaputra River in India and Bangladesh and the basins draining to the Bay of Bengal on the Arakan Coast in Myanmar and India.

Description of endemic fishes

34 recorded endemic fish species

Justification for delineation

For Southeast Asia, delineations were determined using a bottom-up approach that employed both published and unpublished field data and expert assessment (Abell et al. 2008). Delineations were based on topography, climate, and fish fauna (M. Kottelat pers. comm. 2006).

Level of taxonomic exploration

Very little usable data, and barely any data for the Arkan coastal drainages (M. Kottelat pers. comm. 2006).
