Description

Boundaries

Qaidam is a basin located on the northeastern part of the Tibetan Plateau between the Quilian, Altun and Khunlun ranges. It occurs in the Qinghai Province in western China.

Justification for delineation

Delineations were determined using a bottom-up approach that employed both published and unpublished field data and expert assessment (Abell et al. 2008; Wu & Wu 1992). Qaidam basin is distinguished as an ecoregion since it is a large, high-altitude closed basin (M. Kottelat pers comm. 2006).
